Your tour through the true Vietnam will include a basket boat ride, fishing, gardening, relaxing foot massage with medicinal herbs, cooking class and lunch with a local family.Your guide will meet you in your hotel lobby, then you will cycle around Hoi An towards the Tra Que Vegetable Village. About 150 farmers and 400 owners live in the village and cultivate about 20 types of vegetables and herbs such as mint, lettuce, basil, cilantro and broccoli, among others. Situated on almost 100-acres (40-hectares), 8 tons of Tra Que vegetables are sold every year. The vegetable growers do not use pesticides or GMOs, choosing natural fertilizers instead, including seaweed found in the river and harvested by gardeners every morning. You are invited to walk through Tra Que Vegetable Village, meeting local people working in the garden as they have done for centuries.
During your journey through the villages of Hoi an you will cross vast rice fields far away from the tourist trails and see the activities of the inhabitants. The local farmers will teach you about cultivation methods and how to protect developing vegetables from insects as well as join the farmers in gardening activities such as raking the ground, sowing, watering greens, transplanting and tending greens.
Continue riding through paddy fields and Ba Le market until reaching Van Lang fisherman village and the water coconut forest of Bay Mau. The 17-acre (7 hectare) mangrove forest features canals and houses covered in woven water coconut leaf. This haven provided refuge to people and local soldiers during the Vietnam War; however, the forest is now famous for its abundance of seafood.
Your next activity is to prepare lunch with a local family. You will learn how to make Tam huu spring rolls and banh xeo pancakes, which you will then be able to enjoy along with other local Vietnamese delicacies.
After lunch you will be able to rest before returning to your hotel.
