After a full day of cycling and sightseeing in this majestic landscape we return in comfort to our departure point Guests are collected from their accommodation in Stellenbosch and transported in the comfort of our private tour bus to the start of their cycling experience in the heart of the world famous Stellenbosch winelands.
The group will then arrive at the Kanonkop wine estate situated on the slopes of the majestic Simonsberg mountain range named after the founder of the area; and the oldest town in the country after the Mother city. The name Kanonkop is derived from a kopje (hillock), from which a cannon was fired in the 17th Century, to alert farmers in outlying areas that sailing ships plying the waters between Europe and the Far East had entered Table Bay for a stopover at Cape Town. They would then load their wagons, span their oxen and set off to Cape Town to barter their produce, mainly fresh fruit and vegetables, to the sailors and travellers who had spent many months at sea. The area is also known as the “red wine bowl” of South Africa. It has earned a reputation both at home and abroad as an area producing the best wines in the country. Soak up the atmosphere of the estate over a cup of tea or coffee whilst receiving a briefing about the days exciting schedule from our experienced lead guide/s.
Next, head off on our cycling adventure through the estates' vineyards to reach the Wiesenhof Wildpark. The park is set in a fynbos biome that delights one with its diversity. The views encountered are absolutely magnificent, affording a panoramic tapestry of the Cape Winelands. Here, guests have the uniquely exclusive opportunity of cycling amongst Africa’s largest and most striking game antelope which include Eland, Zebra, Wildebeest, Bontebok, Oryx, Springbuck, Common Duiker and Grysbok.
You will work up an appetite for lunch trying to spot as many species of game and birdlife on display while enjoying the thrill of cycling offroad trails from the saddle of our top end mountain bikes.
Anyone for vegetable samoosas, Delta rolls and paaperbites livened with fruit blatjang and avocado, or malva pudding lapped in sour fig sauce? Lunch is served at the Fyndraai Restaurant located on the lushly vegetated Solms delta and offers a very unique and local twist on popular Franschhoek restaurants.
