Day 1: Benvenuti in Italia
Arrive in Reggio Calabria and transfer to your luxury Bed and Breakfast in the center of town. After a welcome drink you’ll have an orientation walk on the stunning lungomare .You’ll end the evening with an abundant twilight apericena.
Day 2: Ghost Stories and Bergamot Groves
Today you will explore the tip of the toe and one of the region’s most interesting "ghost" towns – Pentidattilo. For lunch, it’s over to Ugo’s for lunch at his bergamot orchard.
Day 3: Caves, Castles and Homer’s Odyssey
This morning you'll visit Pizzo Calabro – a pretty fishing village on the Tyrrhenian Coast. You’ll have lunch and will cool off with Pizzo’s famous hazelnut-chocolate gelato truffles. In the evening, you’ll drive to Scilla for a guided walk to the ancient fisherman’s village of Chianalea.
Day 4: Living Like the Locals
You’ll have the morning on your own, then in early evening, you’ll drive a few miles outside of town for an exclusive pizza festa at a private villa.
Day 5: Voyage across the Straits
Today you will head across the Straits of Messina onto Sicily. After a quick stop at the Messina clock tower, you’ll head to Ganzirri – a lake at the northeastern tip of the island unknown (and un-visited) even by Italians. After a scenic seafood lunch, you will continue to Taormina and check into your room in the center of town. You'll have a welcome drink and can relax before meeting your hosts for an orientation tour of the town.
Day 6: Warming Up on Mt. Etna
Today you will visit Mount Etna - Europe’s largest and most active volcano. You’ll ascend its slopes, then tour an 18th century winery for a late lunch and wine-tasting amidst chestnut trees.
Day 7: Taormina’s Hidden Treasures
Today you will meet Davide, for a morning tour of his hometown. In addition to the popular Ancient Greek Theatre, he’ll show you some of his favorite hidden spots. Following the tour, you’ll have a typical summertime Sicilian “lunch” of granita and sweet rolls. In the evening, you’ll head to the terrace of a medieval villa for the farewell dinner. You’ll enjoy sea views, Sicilian wine and local delicacies in an atmosphere only Sicily can offer.
Day 8: Ciao Sicilia
After breakfast, you’ll depart for the Catania airport. Ciao bella Italia.
