Enjoy lots of time off the bus, perfect for those who want to experience Highland scenery and nature at a relaxing pace. Highlights include mighty Blair Castle, the stunning Highland viewpoint of Queen’s View and a short riverside and waterfall walk at The Hermitage.Your first stop is the picturesque Highland village of Dunkeld beside Scotland’s longest river, the majestic Tay. A visit to the historic cathedral and a stroll through the quaint narrow streets is a delightful way to start the day.
The tour continues to Blair Castle, a famous Highland fortress with a 700 year history incorporating the Jacobite Rebellions, the disaster at Culloden and Mary Queen of Scots. You’ll also hear about Queen Victoria’s love affair with the Scottish Highlands and her role in creating the only legally recognized private army in Europe – the Atholl Highlanders. As well as the fascinating castle there are also beautiful gardens that include red deer, forest walks and St Bride’s Kirk – final resting place of ‘Bonnie Dundee’, one of Scotland’s great heroes.
After lunch, and Highland cow photos, you’ll continue on a scenic drive through the heart of the Highlands. Stops include the beauty spot and battlefield of Killiecrankie Gorge before you visit Queen’s View, the much-admired Highland vista along Loch Tummel towards Schiehallion mountain. The beautiful loch-side village of Kenmore is an ideal place to enjoy a coffee with wonderful photo opportunities of the Lawers mountain range and Loch Tay.
You finish the day at The Hermitage. This lovely woodland walk includes a spectacular waterfall and viewpoint.
