Sachsenhausen was the nearest concentration camp to Hitler’s Reich Capital, Berlin. Over nine years the Nazis used the forced labour camp to imprison 200,000 people that would then subjected them to starvation, torture, medical experimentation, and murder. Join one of our specially licensed guides to learn the complex history of the site that was the head of the Nazi SS concentration camp system.

Sachsenhausen was opened in the summer of 1936. The first prisoners were the political enemies of the Nazis; social democrats and communist that had threatened Hitler’s rise to power. Over 9 years 200,000 prisoners would be brought here. The site was liberated by Soviet and Polish forces in 1945, when it became a Soviet concentration camp, Special Camp 7.

Sachsenhausen was meticulously designed to be the ‘perfect’ concentration camp; a place where all prisoners could be monitored by the fewest possible guards. Slave laborers were put through a punishing schedule wherein all prisoners were starved, under-slept, and over worked. Horribly unhygienic conditions made sure that contagious disease was rife in the camp.

Book this private tour to be lead through the site’s history by one of our specially trained licensed guides. They will lead you through the complex, sensitive history, of the concentration camp system, with a focus on the Nazi’s victims.

Your guide will show you important sites including the camp prison, the Jewish barracks, the roll call yard, Tower A, the infirmary barracks & pathology lab, the camp kitchen, and ‘Station Z’ execution grounds.

The tour will include time to read and explore some of the exhibitions alone as well as with your guide. At the end of the tour your guide will accompany you on the train back to Berlin.
