Put on an aquatic helmet and immerse yourself in the marine wonders of Belize’s Mexico Rocks on this 2.5-hour Sea Trek tour from Ambergris Caye. If you’ve always dreamed of walking and breathing underwater, you can explore 175 feet undersea as a continuous flow of air into a space-like helmet lets you breathe and makes your body feel buoyant.
Your tour starts by boarding the Sea Symphony, a 42- by 16-foot (13- by 5-meter) two-level barge. When you arrive at Mexico Rocks, you’ll receive an orientation from your expert guide, who will position a space-like helmet comfortably on your shoulders. Putting on the 60-pound (27-kilogram) helmet while in the water makes it feel lightweight, and the continuous airflow allows you to breathe comfortably underwater. It’s safe and easy!
Next, climb down a ladder to the ocean floor, just 12 feet (3.7 meters) below the surface. On this guided, 30-minute underwater ‘space-walk’ you’ll explore 175 feet (53 meters) along the sandy seabed amid brilliant coral formations pulsating with marine life.
Discover the vivid patch reefs and beds of sea grass that are home to so many species of fish. See schools of tropical reef fish dart about through the colorful coral, as well as larger schools of fish like jacks, tarpon and barracuda. You might even spot nurse sharks and stingrays as they gently glide past.
When you come back up from the clear Caribbean water, enjoy lunch (optional; own expense) on the raised sun deck of the Sea Symphony as you return to shore. Your tour ends with transport back to your hotel.
