Explore Beijing by boat and visit the Temple of Heaven, see the giant pandas at the Beijing Zoo, and visit the beautiful garden and lake at the Summer Palace.
Meet your guide at your hotel in the morning, and depart to the Temple of Heaven, a notable icon of the capital. The Temple of Heaven was a sacrificial complex for annual harvesting ceremonies during both the Ming and the Qing Dynasties. You can learn more about this in the museum accompanying the iconic temple. The park surrounding the temple is vast and offers the opportunity for a pleasant morning stroll, or to watch and join locals doing their exercises.
You will then be taken to see the giant pandas at the Beijing Zoo, where you’ll be able to see the endangered giant panda in real life. Did you know that giant pandas consume about 26-83 pounds of bamboo everyday to get all their nutrients? Giant pandas (in)famously spend most of their day eating or digesting their food while napping. After the visit to the zoo, you will have lunch at a local restaurant nearby.
Next, you will take a boat to the Summer Palace, one of Beijing’s most popular landmarks and one of the best examples of an imperial garden in China. The site, which covers a total of 1.8 miles and incorporates a large lake within it's boundaries, has long been a royal garden and was considerably enlarged during the reign of Empress Dowager Cixi. The Empress effectively controlled China for 47 years between 1861 and 1908. Your final destination is a tea ceremony, to learn more about China’s tea culture, before you are taken back to your hotel.
