Every year thousands of Humpback Whales start their journey from the cold waters in the North Atlantic to the Caribbean. More than 1,500 of them visit the Bay of Samana which means that approximately 300 Humpback Whales are present at any time during the Whale Season (January 15 to March 31). The World Wildlife Fund considers the Bay of Samana as one of the best places in the world to watch the Whales.Samana is a peninsula in the northeast region of the Dominican Republic, boasting a mix of virgin beaches and lush forests with a terrain that is about 70% mountainous. You will go to Samana by bus and, your safari trucks will be waiting for you as you immediately venture into Samana's mountainous countryside.

At a country ranch, you will get on horseback and journey to the renowned, Limon Waterfall. Nestled deep in the forests of Samana, El Limon is an unforgettable site with waters crashing down 170 feet from a mountain river above. Back at the ranch, a typical Dominican lunch will be served in this beautiful mountain setting. On the trucks once again you will descend to Samana Bay to board the whale watching vessel which will cruise deep into the bay to whale watch.

The wonderful thing about humpback whales is they have a lot of activity right on the water's surface, more than any other whale species. It's incredibly common to see pectoral fin slaps and tail slaps, using their flukes that weigh up to 8,000 pounds. There's also an excellent chance you'll see a whale breach, the most sought-after humpback whale photo op!

Don't miss this incredible experience to the beautiful Samana region for whales and waterfalls!
