With the battlements tour you can access parts of the stronghold that are generally closed to the public, and discover centuries of historical and architectural secrets in a 90 minutes tour that will lead you over all the defensive walls of the castle and inside the two front towers.
After meeting the guide at the castle’s Info Point (under the Filarete tower, front entrance of the castle) the tour starts with the ascent to the battlements, ramparts with patrolling functions connecting the various towers and running above the perimetral walls of the stronghold - this requires climbing about 100 steps.
Then the actual exploration of the battlements can start, with several focuses on the architectural traits serving defensive purposes with the details of the soldiers’ activity and life inside the castle during the Renaissance. The tour leads the visitor across all the battlements on every side of the castle, and also on the inner walls surrounding the Duke’s courtyard, allowing a broad gaze over the center of the city, with the Duomo cathedral on one side and the vast Sempione park on the other.
The tour also includes the visit of the two front towers of the castle, the Carmine tower where it’s possible to behold reproductions of ancient weapons, and the Falconiera tower where falcons used to be bred for hunting purposes.
After 90 minute the tour ends in the main courtyard of the castle with a final overview of the stronghold.
