Then begin your 3.5-hour tour with a boat ride across the Chao Phraya river where you’ll disembark at Thonburi, located on the western bank. Whether or not this is your first time in Bangkok, you're sure to experience something new here.
Venture by foot to a district known as Tha Din Daeng, where stalls serves up delicious food along a lively pier. Pick up some local snacks in this foodie paradise to eat along the way.
Listen as your guide describes the diverse local community — including Buddhists, Christians and Muslims — that harkens back to when Thonburi was an independent town until it became part of Bangkok in 1971. Today, the region still retains some of its centuries-old klongs, or canals, which you’ll see as you walk along a stretch of the riverbank.
Stop to admire the Princess Mother Memorial Park, a lush public space featuring a replica of the late royal mother's childhood home, gardens, a pavilion, and exhibition halls with royal memorabilia on display. During your visit, you will stop for a 15-minute break before continuing your walk past more gardens and rural homes.
View several shrines, mosques and community sites of both ethnic Chinese and Portuguese Catholics before arriving at the imposing Wat Kalayanamit. Enjoy the breathtaking sight of this ornate temple, built in the late 1820s, before returning by boat back across the river to complete your tour near the flower market.
Please note: The walking tour covers about 2 miles (3.5 km), and the pace is suitable for anyone with moderate fitness.
