This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the traditional way of life of the mountain ranchers in Baja. You'll meet local potters in a true mountain oasis, and learn how Baja Californians have carved their homes and livings out the mountains for centuries. Getting there is half the adventure. Enjoy driving through the huge, dry arroyos and the beautiful desert roads that lead you up into the mountains, passing through forests of cactus and desert life along the way. After hotel pickup, you'll depart from Todos Santos and enjoy a beautiful 75-minute drive through the mountains towards the working ranch of Doña Ramona and her family. When you arrive, Doña Ramona’s family will be preparing an incredibly delicious lunch while Ramona puts on a pottery class for the group, imparting not only her tricks for working with the local clay, but stories from her life in the mountains as well. Once you’ve created your own Baja California pottery masterpiece, Doña Ramona will take the group into the kitchen to teach each person how to make tortillas in the traditional style – absolutely fantastic! Lunch is typically several wonderful dishes, each made with fresh ranch ingredients.

After lunch, you will tour Doña Ramona’s ranch, checking out her kiln and the little chapel that she has on her property for the visiting priest that comes to the village twice a month. Time and interest permitting, you may wind up the trip by visiting some of Doña Ramona’s potter neighbors before heading back to Todos Santos. You're usually back in Todos Santos between 2 and 3pm.
