Depart Lisbon behind and head out by minivan to the other side of the Tagus River, crossing the 25 Abril bridge towards the Cristo Rei 'Christ the King' monument, whose height embraces Lisbon from its 225 meters above sea level. Here prepare your camera to capture the magnificent views of Lisbon and surroundings. The climb to the top of the monument is made by elevator and has a cost of 4€ per person (own expenses).
We continue our trip in a relaxed way to Azeitão, ancient village renown by its vineyards and olive yards. There, we will visit a winery where you can taste a selection of fine wines, including the famous Moscatel de Setúbal (the cost of the tasting is included). Leaving Azeitão, we visit the medieval castle of Palmela from where we have a magnificent landscape over the Northern, Eastern and Southern surroundings.
We then follow to Setúbal for a walk around town and visit what is considered the first Manueline edification in Portugal, the church of the former Jesus monastery. Town of excellent fish, Setúbal will be a good option for lunch before continuing our trip to Sesimbra and Cape Espichel.
After lunch (own expenses), we will take the stunning coastal road along the Arrábida mountain to the Figueirinha beach, where we will stop for a brief moment to appreciate its blue waters and quiet environment. Then we will continue up the road to the Arrábida mountain's highest point, where we will stop to admire the magnificent 360° views and take photographs.
We will then wind down the mountain, leaving behind the unforgettable landscape and head to Sesimbra, a traditional fishing village. There, we will first visit the medieval castle for a great viewpoint of the village and the distant Atlantic south coast. Before visiting the village, we will visit the Cape Espichel, edge of the Arrábida mountain at 150 m above sea level. There we can learn about the legend of Our Lady of Pedra Mua, as well as visit the shrine built in the 17th century.
In Sesimbra, you will get to know a typical Portuguese fishing village and one of the most appreciated beaches in the country. We will have a drink (own expenses) at a panoramic restaurant that has a privileged view over the houses, beaches and marina. In the late afternoon, we will return to Lisbon, crossing the Tagus River by the 'Vasco da Gama' bridge, the Europe's largest bridge and enjoy a broad view of the Tagus River basin and the modern architecture of the Expo´98 district.
