Visit a local, traditional teak home in Chiang Mai and learn to cook authentic Thai dishes in this private meal and cooking class. Visit your chef's lush vegetable and herb garden before heading inside to prepare a delicious meal together. After being picked up from your hotel you will experience a traditional Chiang Mai home with a magnificent garden and a home-cooked meal. Your chef started to cook when she was 12, waking up early in the morning with her mother to do the family shopping in order to select the best ingredients. She'll help you do the same in her gardens before you head to her kitchen to chop, pound and grind as you learn to make a Thai-Chinese meal from scratch. Sitting around the table that your chef designed to teach her sons how to cook, you will enjoy the delicious, authentic meal you helped prepare.
During your afternoon, you might be treated to Miang kham (a local snack of fresh betel leaves with lime, coconut, and peanuts) and dishes such as beef noodle soup, kaeng khiao wan (chicken green curry), kai kraphrao khai dao (stir fried chicken with holy basil) and rice noodles. At the end of your meal together, you will enjoy refreshing coconut ice cream or mango sticky rice (when in season) for dessert, before being driven back to your hotel. When you depart will have new recipes, a new friend and lifelong memories.
Please note, this is not a professional cooking class. This experience is a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
