Join Sally for an authentic, private cooking lesson and meal and help her prepare some of her favorite regional recipes in her modern Japanese kitchen. Enjoy the meal you helped prepare as you discuss Japanese cuisine and culture together. Leave with new recipes, a new friend, a glimpse into a local's life, and an appreciation of Japanese culture.
Meet the warm and friendly Sally who grew up in the southern prefecture of Yamaguchi and has lived in Tokyo for many years. She runs an English school with her friend Masato and they both love sharing their Japanese culture and cuisine with their guests. Sally is a mother of two and is an expert home-cook who loves to feed her hungry kids! She can cook just about any traditional Japanese dish and takes pride in preparing delicious and innovative onigiri (stuffed rice balls) for her children's school bentos (lunch boxes).
Join Sally and Masato at their apartment in Odaiba. Roll your sleeves up and join Sally in her modern kitchen. Sally will teach you to prepare a few homestyle Japanese dishes. You can expect your hands-on lesson to last about 2-3 hours.
Enjoy the homecooked Japanese meal you helped to prepare. You might get to try Sally's kawara soba, a regional dish from Yamaguchi-ken of green tea-scented noodles cooked on a curved roof tile, yaki onigiri (grilled stuffed rice balls), her light and airy tempura, or sukiyaki (slow simmered beef, noodles, vegetables and tofu, a home-cooking staple). For dessert, you may make mini-green tea pancakes stuffed with red bean paste served with a cup of matcha (Japanese powdered green tea). Experience traditional Japanese life and cuisine as you share a tasty meal together.
Please note: this is not a professional cooking class, rather an experience to visit an authentic, local home and meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
