This tour offers a traditional tea ceremony hosted by a specialist who provides a thorough explanation of the Japanese culture. The serene and beautiful setting will no doubt make you forget about the hustle and bustle of the city. There will be an authentic tea ceremony followed by a Japanese style five-course “kaiseki” dinner (5 courses + pickles + sake, Japanese wine).You will be welcomed by an interpreter at the ticket gate in Futago-tamagawa station (Denen Toshi Line). It will only be a couple of minutes walk to the facility. You will then step into an unexpected and extraordinary space that offers you the quiet, traditional Japanese beauty. The place has a tatami mat tearoom and a Noh stage (Noh is a mask play performed only by male performers). This facility is strictly private.
The first part of the tour begins with a preparation of a bowl of tea by the host in the traditional manner. You will be amazed at the fluid motion as the host prepares the bowl of tea. You will also have a close look at the tearoom and the utensils that are meticulously picked out for the occasion by the host. And the best part is that you will also be put up to the challenge of preparing a bowl of tea by yourself! The host will show you some of the very rare and valuable utensils from Momoyama period (1573 to 1603AD) or the ones that even date back to older periods. This experience is as priceless as visiting a museum.
The second part of the tour follows the tea cermony as the screens and the dividers are removed around you. You will then entering into another world. The “Kaiseki” (traditional tea ceremony meal) will be served which consists of one bowl of soup and three side dishes along with a bowl of rice. Your choice of drink, (sake, Japanese green tea or water) is also available with the meal.
The host of the tea ceremony has a profound knowledge of Japanese tea and food. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and enjoy the exchange of views on Japanese tea and food in a broad spectrum.
The tour concludes as you receive a little gift of Japanese sweets from your tour provider, and your interpreter will see you off at Futago-tamagawa station.
