Discover why Auckland is known as the City of Sails. Led by a local guide, you will learn about Auckland's relationship with the sea.This 90 minute walking tour will take you on a journey through Auckland’s dynamic and constantly evolving Downtown and Waterfront.
After a short introduction at Auckland’s grand Ferry Building, the tour will begin by visiting the recently re-developed Britomart precinct. Here you will learn about the transformation of the area from historic mercantile center to contemporary retail precinct.
Passing by historic buildings such as the Northern Steamship Co, we make our way to the Red Heritage Fence. Walking down this iconic structure we will visit important landmarks of the Rainbow Warrior Memorial mosaic and Britomart Point, your guide will unlock the histories of these landmarks.
After a visit to Princes Wharf which boasts fantastic views of the Waitemata Harbor, we visit Auckland’s Viaduct with its maritime attractions and bustling restaurants. We make a stop to discuss New Zealand’s involvement in the America’s Cup while looking at three America’s Cup boats.
Walking further along Auckland’s Waterfront toward the recently developed Wynyard Quarter we will see a number of impressive attractions from the Te Wero Drawbridge, a Maori entrance arch, the Auckland Fish Market, interactive public sculptures and over 3600 moored boats.
The tour concludes at Silo Park at a viewpoint of Westhaven Marina. Here you will enjoy spectacular views of the Auckland Harbor Bridge, the Waitemata Harbor, North Shore and Herne Bay with its quaint historic villas perched on the hill.
