After morning pickup at your centrally located Cairns hotel, board your air-conditioned coach and head for the Atherton Tablelands, part of the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics of Queensland.
After about an hour, stop to check out the Cathedral Fig Tree, an enormous 500-year-old strangler fig with long aerial roots. Then continue your drive to Lake Eacham, formed by volcanic activity more than 12,000 years ago, in the middle of a pristine rain forest. You might spot turtles in the crystal clear waters, and you can hop in the lake while your guide prepares a hearty morning tea.
Next up, visit Mount Hypipamee National Park to see Dinner Falls, another swim spot, then follow your guide on an easy half-mile (800-meter) walk to a lookout point to see what's known as the Crater. Peer down into the rim, situated a vertigo-inducing 450 feet (138 meters) below you, to see a jewel-toned lake.
Getting hungry? You can pull out your own lunch when your stomach starts to grumble, or wait for a pit stop in the town of Millaa Millaa where you can purchase an inexpensive lunch. Rested and refueled, you'll head out to nearby Millaa Millaa Falls for yet another chance to dip into a spectacular natural pool.
Josephine Falls is a highlight of the afternoon. A short walk brings you to the falls, where daring types can try out a natural waterslide that drops into a deep pool. Swim and soak in the beauty of this scenic spot, then snack on afternoon tea prepared by your guide.
At the end of a full day, your guide returns you to your hotel in the evening.
