Leaving from London by minibus, experience the world famous stone circles of Stonehenge and Avebury through the expertise of an archaeologist guide. Enter the 3650BC tomb of West Kennet and explore less visited sites of Durrington Walls, Silbury Hill and Woodhenge. Mid-day is spent in the Medieval city of Salisbury, home to the finest example of Early English Gothic Architecture, Salisbury Cathedral, home of the finest surviving Magna Carta. The morning starts with a visit to Durrington Walls and Woodhenge, home to the 'Stonehenge Builder's' village. Then travel a short distance to Stonehenge. Enjoy a leisurely paced walk through the landscape surrounding Stonehenge, discussing the Stonehenge Cursus, Bronze Age burial mounds and Stonehenge Avenue. The morning is completed at Stonehenge with a guided walk around the stone circle, your archaeologist guide bringing to life this enigmatic, ancient and mysterious monument.

At mid-day arrive at the beautiful Medieval city of Salisbury. Enjoy approximately 1.5 hours to explore the centre of this city, famous for it's cathedral. Enjoy fast-track entrance into the most impressive cathedral in England, a love of William Turner and John Constable. There will be an opportunity here to have lunch.

Always when possible the scenic roads are taken when traveling between sites. The meandering road between Salisbury and Avebury is no exception with exceptional views, quaint country villages and the Alton Barnes White Horse (a hill figure, over 200 years old)

The Afternoon is spent at the Avebury World Heritage Landscape. Visit Silbury Hill, the largest man-made hill in prehistoric Europe. Enter the 5500 year old burial chamber of West Kennet Long Barrow, entering a sacred space originally reserved only for ritual specialists and the dead.

Finish off by visiting the largest stone circle in Europe at Avebury, with its beautiful medieval village situated inside. As John Aubrey in the 1600's notes [Avebury]..."does as much exceed in greatness the so renowned Stonehenge as a Cathedral doeth a parish church." Avebury also boasts to be the only prehistoric stone circle with a pub at its centre (The Red Lion), serving Avebury Well Water, a local ale only available in Avebury.
