Arrive at Shell Beach in the morning and take a 5-minute ferry ride to Maiden Island, where D-Boat is anchored nearby. A 1974 oil tanker, D-Boat was destined for the scrap metal yard before its potential as an offshore restaurant, water park and party boat was realized. Upon arrival at Maiden Island, you’ll take a transfer ride to D-Boat.
Your mission on this ol' tanker: Have fun. Hear shrieks of delight from kids and adults alike as they tumble down an inflated waterslide, stretching 25 feet (8 meters) long from the top deck into the water below. Join their ranks, or jump in a floating trampoline and vault into the air. Grab hold of a rope-swing, leap out from the deck and hurtle into the Caribbean. A life guard ensures your safety during water-related shenanigans.
Take a leisurely dip in the swimming pool, or work on your tan on the deck with a cool beverage in hand. Enjoy unlimited well drinks, house wine and local beer from the bar (unlimited soft drinks for children), and tuck into a provided lunch when you’re hungry.
Your outing lasts approximately six hours. Spend all your time on D-Boat and participate in a snorkeling tour, or upgrade to visit Stingray City in lieu of the snorkeling tour near D-Boat. All activities end in the early evening, after which you’ll be ferried back to Shell Beach (you may choose to ferry back to Shell Beach sooner).
Optional Upgrade to Stingray City
Get ready to enjoy a unique encounter with stingrays, which TripAdvisor reviewers have ranked as Antigua's top activity. After a boat picks you up from the oil tanker, arrive at Stingray City's land base, where your tour guides provide a brief orientation on southern rays, known as puppy dogs of the sea for their eagerness for attention and snacks. Learn how to interact with the rays in a fun and safe way, and find out how to do the ‘stingray shuffle.’
Afterward, take a short speedboat ride out to a coral reef location with shallow waters teeming with rays, their dark bodies a startling contrast against the white sand floor. Get accustomed to the surreal sensation of these sleek creatures brushing against your legs as they slither around you. With the help of your guides, hold and feed a stingray, and then put on provided snorkeling gear to watch these graceful and friendly creatures underwater, as well as colorful fish that are part of the coral reef landscape.
A photographer will be on-site to capture your special moments with the rays, and photos and CDs will be available for purchase before you leave Stingray City. Back on the land base, shower off under a coconut tree and then sip refreshing rum punch or fruit juice (provided) before being taken back to D-Boat. From D-Boat, you’ll be transported by boat to Maiden Island and then ferried back to Shell Beach.
