After arriving at the Kilimanjaro Airport, relax while going to the hotel. Accommodations are situated on the slope of Mount Meru. Enjoy dinner at the hotel.
August 29 - 31: Experience Katavi National Park
On August 29, fly to Katavi National Park. There will be 2 half-day game drives on each full day, and dinner at the lodge in the evening. On the evening of August 31, there will be a briefing by an eclipse expert who will accompany the eclipse portion of the tour. Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
September 1: Annular Eclipse & Serengeti
Leave accommodations very early; packed breakfast will be provided. Arrive at the eclipse site with time to set up equipment. The annular eclipse starts at 6:50am and should reach its maximum at 8:38am. The height of the annular eclipse will last for about 3 minutes, and end around 10:30AM. After the eclipse, head to the airport to fly to Serengeti National Park. There will be an afternoon game drive at Serengeti National Park as well, though feel free to relax at the lodge if you're tired after the eclipse! Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
September 2: Full day Serengeti
Start with breakfast at the lodge, then enjoy full morning and afternoon game drives in the park, while seeing some amazing wildlife along the way. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
September 3: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Breakfast at the lodge will be followed by a morning game drive in the Serengeti. Stop at a Maasai Village to learn about their culture and how it is being preserved. Then proceed to the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. Stop on the crater rim to enjoy one of the most memorable picnic lunches in your life before descending to the crater floor for a crater tour game drive. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
September 4: Experience Lake Natron
After breakfast, drive to Lake Natron which is a highly alkaline lake (also known as a "soda lake"). The lake is an important breeding ground for flamingos. This walking tour will be followed by a game drive. Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
September 5: Hike at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro
Head to Mount Kilimanjaro for a several hour walking tour at the base of this unique mountain as we see it from the bottom! Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
September 6: Fly to Zanzibar Island
After breakfast, head to Arusha Airport to fly to magnificent Zanzibar Island! Breakfast, lunch, dinner.
September 7 & 8: Enjoy Zanzibar
Spend a relaxing day at the beach, or enjoy one of many optional activities.
September 9: Finish tour
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before returning to the Zanzibar.
