First, visit the ancient Royal city of Angkor Thom with its center piece, the Bayon temple. At first glance, it may seem like a shapeless mass of stone, but further scrutiny reveals towers with the enigmatic faces of former King Jayavarman VII looking into every direction. A short walk away is Baphuon temple and Terrace of the Elephants, which served as a platform from where the King could welcome back his victorious army.
Continue by car to visit the jungle temple of Ta Prohm. This beautiful temple is overgrown with fig trees, giving it a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a ‘forgotten city’ feeling.
Have lunch (own expense) at one of the restaurants in Angkor area recommended by your guide.
Afterwards, visit Angkor Wat temple. With its soaring towers and extraordinary bas-reliefs, Angkor Wat is considered by many to be one of the most inspired and spectacular monuments ever built. Surrounded by a huge glistening moat, it is a truly awe-inspiring sight. The temple displays hundreds of fine carvings of Apsara and Hindu mythology in its bas-reliefs.
In the evening, you have the option to view the sunset at one of the temples recommended by your guide.
