Escape a day from Seoul to visit Andong, a city known for upholding many aspects of traditional Korean culture. During this day trip, you will visit some of the sites made famous by Queen's Elizabeth during her visit, along with attractions that are unique to this city.Your tour begins with a pick-up from your centrally located hotel in Seoul at around 7am. From there, you will drive to Andong, which takes about 3 hours.
The journey in Andong begins with a visit to Buyongdae Cliff, where you can take in the beautiful views of Hahoe Village from up above the mountain. It is an easy 10 minute walk from behind the Gyeongdeoksa shrine. After admiring the view, you will walk down to Hwacheon Seowon to look at traditional houses of scholars from the Joseon Dynasty.
You will stop at a cozy tea house for a short break before heading to the Hahoe Mask Museum, where you will find Korean masks and masks from all around the globe. Hahoe masks have been deemed as national treasures. At the museum, you will see Korean masks that have been used in traditional dances. Walk through various shops or street vendors to find the best souvenir items.
Lunch is served with Andong's famous Gangodeungeo (Salted Mackerel), rice, bean soup and side dishes. After lunch, enjoy walking around Hahoe Village, named as a World Heritage site in 2010. According to UNESCO, Hahoe Village is one of the "most representative historic clan villages in the Republic of Korea." This is also where the famous Andong Mask Dance Festival is held every Autumn.
Finally, you will head back to Seoul where your tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel.
