Just to the west of the San Francisco Peaks, you will pass Sunset crater, Arizona's youngest volcano which last erupted in 1064. Take a stroll through the scenic lava fields of the San Francisco Volcanic Field before visiting Wupatki National Monument, an ancient Pueblo ruin from 500 A.D. with 100 rooms, a ball court and an ancient weather forecast system.
Next up, enjoy a sit-down lunch at historic Cameron trading post, where you can taste authentic Navajo Taco, hot beef or the Navajo Stew. Shop for Native American arts and crafts and marvel at views of the Painted Desert to the north.
Now you are off to the Grand Canyon, glimpsing the stark cliffs of the Little Colorado River Gorge before reaching the National Park and taking in magnificent views of the world's greatest gorge.
