Then Ravello completes the visit.Depart from Sorrento and drive along the Amalfi coastal road. The scenery is superb, looking out over the Mediterranean and along the coastline as the road twists and turns its way towards the town of Positano (approx. 20 minutes from Sorrento). The town is built on different levels from the main road all the way down to sea level, giving the image of a waterfall of buildings cascading down to the sea. As the coach can’t stop in Positano, you will enjoy the views and take photos from the bus.
Next, head to Amalfi, where you can can explore independently for approximately 2 hours. A guided boat trip along the coast may be possible depending on availability and weather conditions. Customers can also visit the magnificent 9th century Cathedral which proudly dominates the main square of Amalfi, wander through the narrow streets of the town and browse the many shops or simply enjoy a coffee in one of the cafes around Amalfi.
The excursion lunch stop takes place after Amalfi in the small village of Scala from which there are excellent views over Ravello.
Then, make your way to Ravello which is situated on the hillside above Amalfi. This is where Wagner was inspired to write part of one of his operas and it is from here that you can enjoy the best views of the Amalfi coastline looking over to Minori, Maiori and beyond.
This quaint little town has a main square where the centerpiece is the bright picturesque 11th century cathedral.
Another option is to visit the Villa Rufolo with its gardens and wonderful views.
For the journey back to Sorrento we head over the hills joining the motorway to Castellammare and then back along the coastal road to Sorrento. There are driving restrictions to return back along the Amalfi coastal road.
