After hotel pickup, take a scenic 50-minute powerboat cruise down the western coast of St Lucia and arrive at Anse Chastanet Resort, near the town of Soufrière. The hillside resort, spanning 600 acres (243 hectares) of jungle and gardens, abuts two bay-sheltered volcanic sand beaches, Anse Chastanet and Anse Mamin.
Head to Anse Mamin, where most of the water activities take place, and receive an orientation of the resort’s facilities. You're provided a beach chair to use all day as you like, on which you can lounge as still as the twin Piton peaks spiking out of the sea, each soaring more than 2,428 feet (740 meters) high. Admire the UNESCO World Heritage site of these side-by-side mountains covered with lush vegetation, connected by the Piton Mitan ridge.
When you’re ready to kayak, on-site professional guides teach you how to navigate your single sit-on-top kayak. On the beach and in water, try out basic paddle strokes, learn how to get in and out of the kayak safely in open water, and receive tips on how to push off from and approach the shoreline. You’ll be cautioned to remain within view of the resort’s two beaches during your outing. After the safety briefing, fasten on a life vest and head out on your own for your adventure.
In the kayak, capture up-close views of the Pitons and paddle alongside rugged volcanic bluffs. Rest for a moment and peering into the sun-dappled water, see different types of coral reef below. Take out your waterproof camera and snap shots of fish swimming around flower and leaf, brain or finger coral, and spot barrel- and vase-shaped sponges.
Back on shore, satisfy hunger pangs with a delicious lunch at the resort’s Jungle Beach Bar & Grill (vegetarian options available). Perhaps after a quick snooze on your comfy beach chair, you’ll want to cool off from the sun and snorkel. After picking up the necessary gear and receiving a safety orientation, swim out to the recommended spots for snorkeling that day. With depths ranging from 20 to 140 feet (6 to 43 meters), the reef options in the area offer diversion for both novices and more experienced snorkelers alike.
In your remaining time, meander behind Anse Mamin beach and wander through the elegant ruins of an 18th-century French colonial plantation. Take a guided tour of the grounds, including a variety of historic ruins, or explore a historical or nature trail on your own. After showering, relax under the shade of a coconut tree until it’s time to be transported back to your hotel.
