Discover beautiful Golden Gate Park on this 2.5 hour advanced Segway Tour in San Francisco.  Glide through eight miles of vibrant gardens, historical monuments and treasured museums while learning the history of the park’s stewards from a fully trained, professional guide.  Explore the park’s eastern end, taking in sights such as Lily Pond and the Shakespeare Garden while listening to trivia and colorful stories about the area from a radio headset.  This advanced tour includes less time learning to ride and more time riding!

Each tour starts at the Music Concourse in beautiful Golden Gate Park behind the bandstand.  After a brief test to ensure you have the necessary skill and experience for the advanced tour, you will be given a headset and radio transmitter allowing you to hear expert commentary from your amazing local guide.  A shorter orientation period leaves more time to explore the park, and after a brief introductory period meeting your guide, you will head out a more challenging route of Golden Gate Park.  Depending on the weather, gloves, hats, and jackets will be provided so you stay comfortable during the 2 ½ hour tour.

From the Music Concourse, you will glide through an eight-mile route along the eastern end of the 1017 acre park, stopping for pictures at iconic landmarks and unique monuments along the way.  You will learn the history of the barren sand dunes once dubbed the “outside lands” by early San Francisco settlers and how early designers transformed the area into the lush park modeled after Frederick Law Olmstead’s famous Central Park in New York City.  Stop for photos at the Japenese Tea Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers, the DeYoung Museum and Academy of Sciences.  See lesser known sites such as the Lily Pond, Prayerbook Cross, and the Fern Grotto.  Hear the stories of the summer of love and famous local bands like the Grateful Dead while looking for blue herons, red-tailed hawk, and tropical parrots that all call the park their home.

Expert guides will provide their own local insights on this small-group tour as you take in the sights and sounds of one of San Francisco’s most treasured public spaces.  The Advanced tour not only covers more ground than the standard tour, but also challenges you to push the sleeker i2 Segways up challenging terrain and through lesser visited parts of the park.   Upon completion of the tour, you will be within easy walking distance of local shops and restaurants and close to public transit options easily connecting you to Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf area hotels.
