Day 1
Transfer to Sinaia, one of the most renowned mountain resorts in the Romanian Carpathians, surrounded by a scenic landscape.
Day 2
Our first stop is the Orthodox Monastery of Sinaia which is on our way to Peleș Castle, the splendid summer residence of the Romanian royalty.
We will continue our trip in Brasov, a city literally surrounded by the Carpathians like a crown. Here we’ll squeeze through one of the narrowest streets in Europe and visit the most sumptuous Gothic cathedral in Romania and south-east Europe, famously called the Black Church.
We’ll have lunch in a picturesque region, with the whitewashed Bran Castle as a backdrop. Our journey ends in Sibiu, one of the largest Transylvanian cities.
Day 3
The day begins with a sightseeing tour in Sibiu. We’ll visit a wonderful art museum hosted by Brukenthal Palace, followed by the Roman Catholic Cathedral. Afterwards we’ll go through the passage of stairs and cross the famous Bridge of Lies.
Next we’ll have an enjoyable, traditional lunch in Sibiel, the rural replica of Sibiu.
The Hunyadi Castle (or Corvin castle) in Hunedoara, laid out in Gothic-style in the fifteenth century was an inspiration for several famous thrillers.
We continue our tour in Alba Iulia, that shelters the largest fortification in the country, Alba Carolina, a Vauban type citadel guarded by 12 kilometer-thick defense wall and Austrian guards.
Day 4
We’ll start the tour in Cluj, in Union Square - festooned with Gothic and baroque–style buildings. Next on our list is the National Museum of Art sheltered by the Banffy castle. Last but not least, our tour cannot end without a stroll down Mirror Street.
From Cluj we’ll be heading north west to Maramureș, then Breb. The houses and old wooden churches in Breb are nowadays part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Our next stop is Sapînţa, the world’s one and only Merry Cemetery.
Day 5
The morning starts with a visit to the Memorial of the Victims of Communism. Perfected across generations, the art of wood carving remains the chief craft of the local community, as you’ll see in an arts and crafts workshop.
After lunch, we travel back to the heart of Romania to visit Biertan church, the largest fortified church in Romania.
Not far out is Sighisoara, the only fortress in Europe continuously inhabited since the Middle Ages.
