This multi-day Private Group Heritage Tour of Calabria is the perfect chance for families and small groups of friends to experience their homeland! In addition to private ancestry days in their ancestral villages, travelers will attend wine-tastings and tours, have lunch in a private villa, enjoy hands-on cooking classes, local artisan excursions, live music events and more.
Day 1: Benvenuti in Calabria
You’ll arrive at Lamezia Terme airport and be met by Cherrye Moore, your bilingual travel host for the week. You'll transfer to your luxury B&B in the center of Reggio Calabria and have a chance to relax. In the evening you will meet up for an evening passeggiata followed by an abundant aperitivo on the lungomare.
Day 2: Calabrese Vino e Musica Viva
Today you will set out for a day in Gerace – a town that is considered one of Italy’s best preserved medieval villages. For lunch, you will enjoy a wine-tasting and pairing at one of the area’s best local spots, complete with live, local folk music. Evening on your own.
Day 3: Private Villa Pranzo and Mythological Mysteries
After a guided visit in Reggio Calabria, you will travel to a nearby town for lunch in a private villa, followed by an evening walk in nearby Scilla.
Day 4:Private Ancestry Tour
Today you will set out to explore your heritage! The day includes visits to the local anagrafe offices, meetings with locals, exploring your family's hometown, seeing the home, streets and/or neighborhood where your ancestors' lived and visiting the church where your relatives were married or Baptized. After your trip, you'll check into your agriturismo near Catanzaro.
Day 5: Seafood Lunch and Gelato Truffles
Today you will visit pretty Pizzo Calabro for a seafood lunch, beach time (weather-permitting) and a tasting of local chocolate and hazelnut gelato truffles!
Day 6: Professional Graffiti, a Homemade Picnic and DOC Wines
Today you will visit one of Italy’s most famed pottery villages, then will head into the mountains for a homemade Calabrese picnic. In the evening you will have an exclusive dinner and wine-tasting at a local wine bar.
Day 7: Ancient Artisan Traditions and Outdoor Cooking
This morning you’ll enjoy a guided tour and in-depth look into Catanzaro’s ancient silk tradition. In a lonely village near Catanzaro, a group of Calabrian youth has gathered to breed silkworms, experiment with new all-natural colors and give travelers a hands-on experience at extracting silk. You'll have a cooking class in their mulberry orchard followed by lunch beneath a centuries-old pine tree.
Day 8:Ciao bella Calabria!
After breakfast, you will depart for Lamezia Terme airport and say arrivederci to bella Calabria!
