The new bike and barge tour through France will show you one of the most beautiful, famous and beloved parts of France. Many of you know Bordeaux as the famous wine growing regions in the world but the south-western part of France is also the perfect setting for a bike and boat tour. As far as holiday destinations go it doesn’t come any better than the French city of Bordeaux for lovers of fine wine and cycling to combine their passions. The City of Bordeaux is widely recognized as one of the world’s major wine cities and, as a bonus for cycling enthusiasts, one of the most picturesque places in the country to enjoy a cycling tour.
On day 1 you will arrive individually. There is the opportunity for a first test ride while you explore the region.
Day 2 is the first full day bike tour that will start in Fronsac. In Libourne you can stroll to the picturesque city square, lined with buildings dating as far back as the 16th century. You can start your exploration of the famous Pomerol and Saint-Émilion wine areas. Evening cruise to the jetty of Bourg on the conjunction of the Dordogne and the Garonne rivers into the Gironde estuary.
On day 3 there is a short loop through the citadel to admire the military masterwork of the architect of Louis XIV, the “Sun King”, you will enter the Côtes de Blaye vineyard. You can visit village squares and towering chateaux. Be enchanted by the ”douceur de vivre” (sweet life), so typical for this wine region.
On day 4 you can discover the capital of the Médoc wine region. You will have time to saunter in the village, where an exceptional old chateau testifies to the English presence to guard the left bank of the estuary, frontiers of their highly coveted territory. Then winding your way through vineyards, you will discover Margaux’s appellation best wineries and the last but not least Château Margaux .
The heart of Bordeaux is planned on day 5. The tour guide will offer a city tour of Bordeaux to discover its architectural gems on two wheels. The tour begins with the historical background, followed by the exploration of some of its main attractions. After dinner, you will cruise on the Garonne to Cadillac, name-giver of the famous American car brand.
Day 6 will start in Cadillac, graves, region, also called the birthplace of Bordeaux Wines.There is opportunity to visit the former residence of the writer Francois Mauriac and the Malromé castle, house of the painter Toulouse-Lautrec, built in the sixteenth century. Wine tastings are offered here! Evening cruise upstream to Castets-en-Dorthe, the end of the shippable part of the Garonne river.
On day 7 the route will follow the winding banks of the Ciron river, whose icy waters flow into the warmer waters of the Garonne. country roads are dotted with picturesque chateaux whose elegant turrets rule over an ocean of colorful vines. Last dinner on board in Castets-en-Dorthe.
Day 8 is the last day of the tour. After breakfast the guests will return home
