Timed during winter the tour will offer some of the best light to capture the wild beaches of the West Coast and views of the Southern Alps covered in snow.

Join award winning photographer Richard Young on this amazing seven day South Island photography in New Zealand departing on the 5th September 2016. Timed during winter the tour will offer some of the best light to capture the wild beaches of the West Coast and views of the Southern Alps covered in snow.
Day 1 - Queenstown
Meeting mid-morning at Queenstown Airport we will then drive to Glenorchy to capture the beauty of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding snow-capped mountains, then the sunset over the lake.
Day 2 - Queenstown to Haast
We will drive over the Crown Range, stopping in Wanaka before climbing up to Haast Pass, the gateway to the West Coast where we will stay tonight. Along the way we will have the chance to photograph a number of amazing waterfalls including Thunder Creek Falls, a beautiful 30m cascade in attractive silver beech forest. Tonight we will capture our first sunset on the west coast.
Day 3 - Haast to Fox Glacier
We will spend the morning exploring some of the stunning rainforest of the Te Wahipounamu; UNESCO World Heritage area, before heading onto Fox Glacier. For sunset tonight we will head out to Gillespies Beach, which offers wonderful panoramic views back onto the snow-covered peaks of the Southern Alps.
Day 4 - Fox Glacier to Franz Josef Glacier
This morning we photograph sunrise at Lake Matheson; trying to capture the perfect reflection of Mt Cook & Mt Tasman in the lake. We will then have the option (at additional cost) and depending on weather; to fly up and land on the snow on the top of the Fox Glacier for some amazing photo opportunities. After our snow landing, or some extra time exploring around Fox Glacier. We will then head to Franz Josef where we will stay.
Day 5 - Franz Josef Glacier to Punakaiki
After an early start to capture a misty morning sunrise over Lake Mapourika, we will then head up the West Coast with a number of stops during the day. These will include the Whataroa River and the Hokitika Gorge, before reaching Punakaiki and the famous Punakaiki rock formations where we will photography sunset tonight.
Day 6 - Punakaiki to Arthur's Pass
This morning we will walk up the Fox or Pororari River to explore the limestone landscape of Paparoa National Park. After lunch we will head onto Arthur's Pass where we will stay tonight and capture sunset over the Waimakariri River.
Day 7 - Arthur's Pass to Christchurch
After exploring some short walks around Arthur's Pass we will head to Castle Hill to photograph the amazing bolder formations here. We will then head to Christchurch to connect with late afternoon flights.
Tour includes:
6 nights hotel/motel accommodation shared twin room with another person from the workshop. If you wish, there is the option to upgrade to a private hotel room at an extra cost.
