On this unique 7-day program you will get the opportunity to enjoy a variety of traditional Chinese experiences, including learning Kung Fu, Taichi, Qi Gong and meditation in small groups inside the genuine Shaolin Temple in Henan, China!
This 7-Day Shaolin Temple Kung fu Experience offers an exclusive opportunity, not only to learn Kung Fu inside Shaolin Temple with genuine Shaolin warrior monks, but also to experience life and culture both inside and outside the temple walls. It’s the perfect program that enables you to get a taste of Chinese life and traditional culture at one of the most iconic locations in China.
Program starts from Zhengzhou Main Railway Station. From there, you board a private bus, arriving at the Shaolin Temple 3 hours later. You will stay at a hostel in Wangzhigou, a small village near the temple, and walk to the temple everyday to study. Once you are settled in, Monday afternoon will feature a guided tour of the Shaolin Temple, and training will begin early Tuesday morning.
Your hostel has 3-bed mixed dormitories. These dormitories are equipped with TVs, kettles and air conditioning. Bathrooms are shared. Free WiFi and a paid laundry service are available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, all included in the price, are provided daily.
Over the course of 7 days, you will train Kung Fu for a total of 20 hours, plus 5 hours of Taichi and Qi Gong. Every day, you will have two formal study sessions with your shifu (the monk who will be training you at the temple): one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Time will vary depending on the weather but a typical schedule would be 9-11 and 3-5. Your native English-speaking guide will also lead warm ups, additional exercises and extra-curriculum study, both before and after your training with the temple monks.
With your shifu, you will be learning Tongbiquan, considered one of the most famous styles of kung fu and one of the fastest and most forceful. For your supplemental training, your guide will lead morning sessions in Yang Style Taichi, and impact conditioning, pad work and applications training after class, some of which will involve contact, but no combat.
No prior training in martial arts is required to be able to enjoy this experience. But if you do have martial arts experience, the monk teaching you can adapt the speed and difficulty of the classes to accommodate your level.
On Sunday, the last day of the program, you also have the option to join a sightseeing tour led by your guide, to see some of the sights around the Shaolin Temple Scenic Area. Sunday afternoon, you will be taken by private bus back to Zhengzhou Main Railway Station, where your 7-day experience ends.
