See the Highlands, Loch Ness and Glen Coe, visit Dunrobin Castle, Sutherland and take the ferry to see the best beaches in the UK and the Callanish Standing Stones.
On day one you’ll learn the true Braveheart story on the way to the historic city of Stirling. Hear of the brutal MacDonald Clan Massacre before stopping in Glen Coe to stand amongst the dramatic mountains and waterfalls here. And check out the tallest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis as at our Fort William stop. Look out for Nessie as we drive the banks of Loch on the way to Fort Augustus, our overnight stop.
Day two begins by heading to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness. We’ll then visit Dunrobin Castle (entrance fee not included), where you can enjoy a falconry display and walk in its beautiful gardens. You will drive then through the Sutherland area, towards Knockan Crag Nature Natural Reserve and see one of the oldest landscapes in Europe. Then we catch the ferry to the Isle of Lewis and Harris (included in the price). Overnight: Stornoway
Here we’ll visit a Black House village (entrance fee not included) where you can step back in time and experience the history and heritage of crofting life. You’ll also see a Traditional Harris Tweed Weaver at work (entrance fee not included). Carloway Broch, a prehistoric circular stone tower and Callanish, home of the most complete historic stone circles in Europe are highlights for history lovers. Luskentyre, winner of Britain’s best beach title will astound you with its gorgeous white sands. You’ll then return Stornoway for your third night.
Day four takes you to the most northerly point of the Western Isles, the Butt of Lewis, a great spot for bird and seal watching, and with its spectacular cliffs this part of the coastline is a must see! Then it’s time to take your ferry back to mainland. This day-time crossing offers spectacular views and is another fantastic chance to see lots of sea-life. Look out for dolphins, whales, porpoises, basking sharks and seals! We’ll reach Inverness, the capital of the Highlands!
On your final day we stop by the battlefield of Culloden (entrance fee not included), the site of the defeat of the Jacobite forces. We’ll also travel though the dramatic Cairngorm Mountains National Park, visit a whisky distillery (entrance fee not included) and have the chance to explore the picturesque town of Pitlochry before returning back to Edinburgh.
