Take a night bus from Cusco to the town of Puerto Maldonado on the edge of the Amazon Jungle.
Day 2: Depart Puerto Maldonado – Eco-Lodge (L, D)
Reception is at the bus terminal around 7:00am and transfer to the local office to wait for the rest of the group to arrive before taking the boat transfer. There, you'll be able to rest, have a snack, coffee and use the WiFi. At noon you'll transfer to the boat wharf, Port Captain, located 15 minutes from both the airport and bus terminal. Begin the 1-hour boat ride to your Eco-Lodge.
Arrive at your Eco-Lodge and settle into your private bungalow. Take a short rest before meeting with your guide followed by an introduction walk around the lodge and its trails. Winding past giant Kapok trees, walking palms and strangler figs while being dazzled by the sounds of native birds. Return to your bungalow for a rest. Go to the dinning hall with your guide for your first dinner in the rain forest and enjoy a typical meal from this region.
Day 3: Jungle Walk – Taricaya Reserve (B, L, D)
Breakfast is served from 7 to 8am. Afterward, begin your adventure walking through the trails surrounded by huge trees. Arrive at your first platform located 15 and 25 meters high, accessed by a suspension bridge, and explore the amazing wildlife around. Continue your walk into the Taricaya reserve toward the highest tree platform in the Amazon rain forest.
Continue into the reserve to the animal rescue center where you will encounter many different wild animals. Stop off at the Butterfly House before returning to the lodge for lunch. Take a rest after lunch before venturing off on the 25 minute walk to the Agroforestry farm and visit the reforestation projects of mahogany, cedar, cocoa, coffee and tropical flowers. Visit the Taricaya turtle project and its artificial beaches. Return to the lodge in your own inflatable boat. Take a rest before we finish the day’s activities with a caiman search along the rivers edge in a motorboat under moonlight. End the day with a farewell dinner.
Day 4: Puerto Maldonado Free Day - Night bus to Cusco (B)
Enjoy an early breakfast at your lodge before your scenic boat trip on the Madre de Dios River. You will return around 9:30am for a free day in Puerto Maldonado before your return night bus. Be dropped off at the office where you can rest, refresh yourself and use the WiFi. You have the option of visiting the city center on your own today. Choose to have lunch in town or make your own way up to the Obelisk and admire the scenic view from above. Return to the office to get transferred to the bus station for your overnight bus to Cusco.
Day 5: Arrival to Cusco
Upon arrival, please make your own way to the accommodation of your choice.
