The package starts from your hotel in the capital of the Champasak Province, Pakse (overnight prior to the start of this package is not included). Your guide and driver for the day bring you to one of the best local cafes in town for a delightful cup of Lao coffee.
From here, head to the local pier where we embark on a traditional boat and sail downstream for 2 hours to the town of Champasak. End your boat trip at one of the piers along the Mekong River and continue by car to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Vat Phu, a mountain temple that dates back to the 5th century. Arrive at your booked hotel in Champasak. There is plenty of time to explore the hotel’s surrounding on foot or bicycle. (B, L, D)
Day 2:
This morning, drive to the mighty Khonphapeng Waterfalls at the southern tip of Laos. Nicknamed the Second Niagara Falls, it is the biggest and most beautiful waterfall in Southeast Asia. The nickname is well-deserved. With its enormous water displacement day in day out, it has always formed a great natural barrier against foreign aggression, being a huge obstacle for navigation in the Mekong River.
After this visit, head out for a delicious locally cooked meal. Continue to the port for a ferry trip to Don Khon and Don Det islands located in the Mekong River. Cross the French railway bridge linking Don Khon and Don Det and see the old locomotive, a monument of once a thriving railway connection point in this part of the country. After that, head to the beautiful Liphi Waterfalls, walking through the scenic landscape. (B, L, D)
Day 3:
In the morning, head to the Bolaven Plateau, an extinct volcano and an unique elevated region in Laos. Stop at the spectacular Tad Fane Falls located in pristine jungle. Visit Tad Phasuam and Tad Yeuang Waterfalls, icons of the Bolaven Plateau and absolutely sights that cannot be missed.
Optional (to be paid on spot, not included in the package rates – this optional tour takes around 1.5 hours): If interested, go deeper into the coffee culture in Laos to a demonstration farm on how the coffee culture in Laos has grown over the years. Explanation of the cultivation and growing techniques by a local expert is included, as well the chance to pick coffee beans under guidance of this expert. A cup of this delicious brew is of course included.
Stop for lunch at the Sinouk Coffee plantation and afterward, head back to Pakse. The rest of the time is at your leisure. Overnight at your hotel in Pakse. (B, L) Dinner is not included during this day (on own arrangement)
