With three nights of centrally-located 4-star hotel accommodation included, plus a 1-hour city tour by coach, the independent experience covers all you need to see the best of Salzburg at your own pace. The sights and attractions mentioned below are to give you an idea of the variety of things to do in Salzburg, but they are only an example and are not included; all entrance fees and activities (other than the city tour) are at your own expense. The 1-hour city tour is described on Day 2 but can be taken on any of the days.
Day 1:
Check in to your Salzburg hotel in the early afternoon and spend the rest of your day at leisure. Perhaps stroll around the Altstadt, admiring its beautifully preserved Baroque fountains and architecture that have secured the area’s place on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Sights to look out for include Salzburg Dom – the city cathedral – as well as St Peter’s Abbey Church and Schloss Mirabell, where the eccentric Prince-Archbishop Dietrich lived in the early 17th century.
The city has a varied dining scene, with restaurants ranging from traditional Schnitzel-serving eateries to trendy bistros. So head out in the evening to eat wherever you please, and then maybe visit a legendary Salzburg beer hall for a must-try stein (large tankard of beer). All food and drinks are your own expense.
Overnight: 4-star Hotel NH Salzburg City, Hotel Am Mirabellplatz, Radisson Blu or similar
Day 2: (B)
After breakfast in your hotel, the day is yours to enjoy independently. If you decide to take your 1-hour city tour on this day, then the experience starts with a hotel pickup. Relax in the comfort of your luxury coach while traveling around town, seeing the sights and hearing their history from your guide.
Look out for top Salzburg attractions like Mozarteum (also known as Mozart-Wohnhaus) where Mozart lived with his family during the late 18th-century, and Schloss Leopoldskron – a Rococo castle used in The Sound of Music film. Pass though the Altstadt and learn about the architecture of Salzburg Dom, often said to be a masterpiece of Baroque design.
Your tour finishes back at your hotel and you then have the rest of your day to spend as you please.
Overnight: 4-star Hotel NH Salzburg City, Hotel Am Mirabellplatz, Radisson Blu or similar
Day 3: (B)

If you want to venture out of the city, then attractions like Schloss Hellbrunn or the Werfen ice caves (Eisriesenwelt) are accessible by public bus.
