Arriving at Jingshan park (Coal Hill park), you will notice the dominating feature as it is one of the central hills in Beijing that offers fantastic views. The mount was created from the earth excavated to make the Forbidden City’s moat. From the park, you can look down on the magnificient Forbidden City and see great views of the surrounding modern city of Beijing. The roof tiles in the Forbidden City give off an interesting shadow as the sun sets and see Beijing light up for the night.
Continue on to Beihai park where you will still see locals exercising. Learn about the park’s history while walking along the lakefront to the northwest end of the park. Hopefully the national theatre will be lit up as it is a true sight to see at the nighttime.
Afterwards, head to the lotus lane and Shichahai lake area that many locals go to enjoy the evening breeze while conversing with friends and families. Then, pass through the Yinding Bridge where the emperor would come to enjoy the beautiful west mountains and then walk along the Yan Dai Xie Jie street where you can sample the best local street food and snacks.
