Join this one of a kind tour to see the world’s greatest flower show in the Northern Cape and West Coast of South Africa. View the Namaqualand daisies and more than 3,500 floral species that emerge in spring – from early August to the end of September. 3 Full days including all meals and 2 nights accommodation.Day 1: Travel 254 km – Cape town to Clanwilliam
Depart Cape Town at 7:30am Stop at Piekenierskloof Pass, for refreshments. Next stop will be Clanwilliam, to visit the Rooibos Tea factory. Lunch is served at the Dam Bistro. After lunch head to the Ramskop Nature Garden to view all the amazing wild flowers in bloom, then travel over the Pakhuis Pass and down into the Biedouw Valley where you will reach Traveller’s Rest, your overnight accommodation. The remainder of the afternoon will be at your own leisure, to rest, or join a short hike to see some ancient Bushman rock art. There are 9 sites on the 5km Sevilla trail which offers a stunning glimpse of rock art left behind by the San Bushmen. The first 3 sightings are just 1km from the original departure point.
Enjoy the sunset before dinner and later see the entire night sky filled with millions of stars before you head off for a good night’s rest.
Day 2: Travel 237 km – Clanwilliam to Loeriesfontein
Depart at 8:30am for Loeriesfontein after a hearty “Farm or Healthy Breakfast”. Your first stop will be in Vanrhynsdorp at the Kokerboom Succulent Nursery, after go to the Latsky Radio Museum, see a collection of over 200 radios dating as far back as 1915. Then continue on to Nieuwoudtville and stop on VanRhyns Pass for refreshments and to see the breathtaking view, before going to the Nieuwoudtville Flower Reserve. Have a light lunch of roosterkoek and freshly baked breads at the Blik Bazaar.
After lunch visit some of the best viewing sites in the area before driving towards Loeriesfontein. Stop at the spectacular Nieuwoudtville Waterfall, where you can see this waterfall which rises out of the earth. Late afternoon arrival at Loeriesfontein, where you will be lodged at the Loeriesfontein Hotel.
At your leisure take a stroll to the Fred Turner/Windpump Museum and walk around the little town and see the fields of flowers on the open spaces. Dinner will be served at the hotel.
Day 3: Travel 478 km – Loeriesfontein to Cape Town
Once you have had your breakfast, leave Loeriesfontein at 8am and travel towards the West Coast to see its abundance of flowers. You will stop off in Elands Bay for light refreshments and then continue on to Langebaan via Laaiplek and Veldrift where you will see flowers all along the coast. You will then have a buffet lunch at the famous Boesmanland Farm Kitchen overlooking the ocean in Langebaan.
Your last activity on this trip will be the West Coast National Park, where you will find the sandveld embroidered with a tapestry of multi-hued flowers. Sightings of antelope are also normally in abundance. Stop off at the West Coast Farm Stall for a nice cup of tea to reminisce about our trip before heading back to Cape Town.
