Built on a natural formation of sandstone rock pillars up to 1,312 feet high, the six remaining monasteries date from the 14th century and form a remarkable and awe-inspiring combination of nature and spiritual significance. Playing a key role in preserving the Hellenistic culture during Ottomon rule they also served as a mecca at this time for artists poets & scholars. Packed with religious treasures, wall paintings, icons and libraries full of manuscripts along with the amazing architectural feats & views. We'll visit two of the most outstanding monasteries learning about their long history and the hermits and monks that lived there as we go. Finally we drive east to the mountain of the Centaurs as you relax passing through breathtaking mountainous scenery along the way.

Pelion was home to the mythical Centaurs who lived in its caves and more recently was designated a 'Natura 2000' site of outstanding natural beauty. It forms a Peninsula rising from the Aegean & combining Mountain, Sea, Forest & culture with over 25 picture postcard villages (location of 'Mama Mia' the movie). Our Tour spends time in two of these along with a short Orientation on Pelion & Nature Trek.
