Depart early in the morning from your riad/hotel in Marrakech and travel through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass (2260 m) – the highest road in Morocco offering spectacular charming views of the mountains and valleys with a snaky road. See beautiful landscapes with different colors and Berber villages along the way. Visit several kasbahs along the way, including Tamnougalte. The trip continues through the palm-lined Draa river valley. Arrival to Zagora, have dinner and spend the night in a Riad.
Day 2: Zagora – Tamgroute – Mhamid – Erg Chegaga Desert Dunes (L/D)
After the morning meal visit Zagora and its surroundings areas, especially the Jewish quarter in Amzerou and the palm groves. Afterwards, continue your trip towards the Sahara Desert (Mhamid). Along the way, stop in the the original town of the 16th century dynasty (Saadian), Tamgroute, to visit an old Coran library and a subterranean kasbah. Arrive to Mhamid where the Draa valley and civilization ends. Lunch is a desert picnic, then go to Erg Chegag. Arrive before the sunsets and begin the nomadic life by riding the camels and traveling along the desert. Dinner and your nights stay will be enjoyed in the nomad tent, or under the starlit sky.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga - Marrakech (L/D)
After watching the sunrise over the dunes, and eating your breakfast, leave Chegaga towards Foum-Zguid. Travel through the Lake of Iriqui and a desert plateau covered with acacias trees. Reach Taznakht where you will have lunch, then continue to Marrakech through Amerzeggane. Arrive back to Marrakech around 6pm.
