Day 1: Venice (D)
Check into your Venice hotel in the afternoon, and then spend the rest of your day sightseeing independently. Your accommodation is based right in the heart of Venice, meaning you’re ideally placed to see the top city sights. Perhaps walk through Piazza San Marco or amble across Rialto Bridge to admire the Grand Canal – Venice’s main waterway that’s used by vaporetti (water buses), water taxis and the famous Venetian gondolas.
Your guide will meet you in the evening to discuss the finer details of your itinerary, and then leave you to have dinner at your hotel.
Overnight: 3-star Hotel Continental in Venice
Day 2: Venice – Verona – Lake Garda – Lake Como – Milan (B, D)
After breakfast, leave Venice by air-conditioned coach and travel west to Verona. Famous as the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, this enchanting Veneto city has gained UNESCO status for its collection of monuments from eras dating back to 1st century BC. On a guided walk, pass top Verona attractions like Piazza della Erbe and Juliet’s House. Lose yourself in the setting of the world’s most romantic story and see the balcony where Juliet was serenaded by Romeo.
Continue to Sirmione on the southern shores of Lake Garda, and explore this carefree little peninsula town with your guide. As you stroll, admire its colorful streets, picturesque Roman ruins and 13th-century Scaligero Castle – all set against the dazzling blue backdrop of Italy’s largest lake.
After enjoying free time in Sirmione for lunch (own expense), continue by coach to Lake Como. If Lake Garda is Italy’s largest lake, then Lake Como takes the title for the most spectacular – basking in the scenic foothills of the snow-capped Rhaetain Alps. Stroll around a pretty waterfront village and soak up the laid-back atmosphere of Italian lakeside life.
Having seen two of the country’s most beautiful lakes, travel by coach to Milan, roughly 1.5 hours away. Check into your hotel in time for dinner, and then relax at leisure.
Overnight: 4-star Hotel Executive in Milan
Day 3: Milan (B)
Enjoy breakfast, check out of your hotel and then relax on a sightseeing tour of Milan by coach. See Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the city's extravagant shopping galleria, and then gaze in awe at Milan Duomo – one of Europe’s most striking examples of Gothic architecture. Admire Castello Sforzesco, Milan’s Renaissance pride and joy, and learn of the important museums that it now houses.
Your tour finishes at Milano Centrale (the central train station) or you can hop aboard an air-conditioned coach in town for a transfer to Rome Termini train station – roughly seven hours away.
