Dating back to year 501, Monasterboice is home to Ireland's best preserved Celtic crosses and a monumental fully intact Round Tower. Enjoy the world famous Black Taxi tour (optional, own expense) to marvel at the Peace Wall and political murals. You will enjoy the highlights of the city including City Hall, Queen's University, Albert's Clock, Botanic Gardens and much more. On the first night of this 3 day tour, you will stay in the charming University Quarter, a lively area with world class pubs and restaurants, catering to all budgets.
Day 2 is a glorious touring day where you will travel along the Beautiful North Coast. The first stop will be a visit to the Dark Hedges, made famous by the 'Game of Thrones' television series. You will also enjoy views of Ballintoy Harbour, one of the backdrops of the series. Next, you will visit the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, which you may like to cross for a small optional charitable donation to the National Trust, the registered UK charity that maintains the Bridge. From the rope bridge, the tour will continue on to the highlight of the day - the Giant's Causeway. A UNESCO world heritage site, the Causeway was formed by volcanic eruptions a during the last ice age and is home to an estimated 60,000 hexagonal columns of basalt rock. The tour will then stop to allow a fantastic photo opportunity of Dunluce Castle - ancestral home of the McDonnell clan. Spend the night in the historic city of Derry, a medieval city steeped in history. Spend the evening with a session of traditional music in Peadar O'Donnells pub!
Begin day 3 with a hearty breakfast and a walking tour of Derry city's famous medieval walls, built in 1613, with a local guide. The next stop is the portal tomb of Creevykeel. Dating back to the pagan years in Ireland and giving you an insight into the lives of Ireland's earliest inhabitants from the stone age and their rituals and burial ceremonies. The tour will continue through the poetic heartland of Ireland, W.B. Yeat's country, where you will visit the poet's final resting place in Drumcliff Abbey. From here, you will visit the premier surf venue and beach at Strandhill, County Sligo. Before returning to Dublin, you will have the chance to visit Galway city, where you will have free time to explore traditional music capital of Ireland and perhaps visit some wonderful local seafood eateries or try a pint in one of the fantastic pubs (own expense). The tour will conclude with a scenic drive back to Dublin, arriving in the capital at approximately 7pm, with three unforgettable days of touring behind you.
