Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau (L, D)
07:30 to 08:00 – Be picked-up from your hotel in the Old Quarter in a comfortable van, and depart for Mai Chau Valley, 135km northwest of Hanoi. Travel through Cun Pass, Thung Khe Pass and stop on the top of Thung Nhuoi Pass to take-in the breathtaking Mai Chau Valley below. Excellent photo opportunities.
11:30 to 12:00 – Arrive in Mai Chau, then continue on to Lac Village and Pom Coong Village. Say hello to the host and check in to the stilt-house.
12:15 - Have a traditional lunch in a local village. In the afternoon, cycle around the villages with a local tour guide. See farmers working in fields, villagers weaving scarves and visit the surrounding peaceful villages. After approximately 2 hours, you will cycle among the rice fields, stilt-houses, streams and get to know more about Thai hill-tribes and their culture. You may purchase some embroidery as souvenirs.
18:00 - Visit a Thai living museum for a traditional dinner
19:30 - Witness a traditional Thai dance in the stilt house. Enjoy some traditional “ruou can” wine with your host. Overnight in Mai Chau.
Day 2: Pu Loung Nature Reserve (B,L,D)
07:30 - 08:00 - Get up and enjoy breakfast
08:30 -10:30 - Ride motorbikes 35km (22m) to Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Motorbike drivers are available if you do not wish to drive yourself.
12:00 - Eat lunch in Hang Village.
13:00 to 15:00 - Go trekking in Pu Luong Nature Reserve. The region is blessed with rich forest, limestone panoramas, magnificent rice terraces and breathtaking scenery. On this trip you can experience the everyday life and culture of Thai and Muong ethnic minorities and spend the evening with the friendly locals.
17:00 - Return to Mai Chau for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Mai Chau - Hanoi (B,L)
07:30 - 08:00 – Get up and go jogging around the village in the mist. Have a light breakfast, possibly with Pho bo (beef-noodles).
08:30 -11:30 - Hike to 1000 Step Cave and a local market.
12:15 - 15:00 - Have lunch and some free time to relax before getting in the van back to Hanoi.
18:30 - Your driver will see you off at your hotel in Hanoi Old quarter.
Note: The homestay and private rooms are not equipped with air-conditioning. Local people don’t want the modern world interfering with their traditions. You will be provided with mosquito nets. The temperature of Mai Chau is moderate at 12 to 25C (53 - 77F) all-year-round, cool enough so air-conditioning is necessary.
