Upon arrival at the Luang Prabang International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel for check-in. After taking a brief rest at your hotel, you will visit the Wat Xienthong, one of the most beautiful temples in Luang Prabang. Next, you will stop to visit the impressive Stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham, Wat Mai. You will then climb to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a beautiful sunset view of the city and the Mekong River. If you are still feeling energetic in the evening, you can explore the Night Market where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by the hill tribe and local people surrounding Luang Prabang. Return to the hotel and stay overnight in Luang Prabang.
Day 2: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou Caves and Khuangsi Waterfall (B)
An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of monks collecting offerings. This tradition is very unique in Laos as the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession.
After breakfast you then board a cruise on the Mekong River, which will give you a panoramic view of the tranquil countryside. Your first stop after the cruise is a visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. There are two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. Along the way, you will stop at the small village of Ban Xanghai, where the local rice wine is distilled.
Next, you will be driven to the Khouangsi Waterfall, and along the way you'll see local villages of Lao including Ban Ouay, Hmong Village, Ban Ou, Laoloum Village and Ban Thapene, Khmu Village. You will then see Prabang in the late afternoon and continue to Ban Xangkhong, a village well known for silk hand weaving and traditional Saa Paper making. Return to Luang Prabang by late evening for your overnight stay at hotel.
Day 3: Luang Prabang (B)
After breakfast, you will visit the National Museum at the former royal palace, which displays a lovely collection of the artifacts. The National Museum closes on Tuesday and instead you will visit the Arts and Ethnology Centre which will provide you with further insight into the ethnic mix and culture of Laos. Visit the central market, and have free time to explore the town and stroll around the shopping area. When the tour ends, you will be transferred to Luang Prabang International Airport for your onward journey.
