Scenic Highland hiking, Speyside Cooperage, Glenlivet Distillery, homely family-run accommodation, experienced and qualified guide, world-renowned whisky castle, and see the world's largest bottle of whisky! Arrive on day 1 at Fraoch Lodge in the Highland village of Boat of Garten. You can pop in any time but we would suggest leaving it until mid to late afternoon to come by so that we have time to prepare your accommodation. Dinner is usually prepared for 8pm.
Day 2: After a hearty breakfast, we'll make a short transfer to the Speyside area where we'll hike in the hills surrounding the Glenlivet distillery to experience the full atmosphere and history of the countryside which has influenced the development of the flavour of the world famous Glenlivet whisky. We'll drop in to the distillery for a tour and tasting at the end of the hike then head back to Boat of Garten to relax by the fire and take a shower.
Total hiking time: less than 6 hours, excluding breaks
Day 3: We explore more of the whisky story today. A vital part of the flavour of your whisky is due to the type of barrel it is stored in. To start the day we'll head out to the Speyside Cooperage to see the barrels being hand crafted. Then we'll undertake the more healthy part of the day with a brief hike up Ben Rinnes, the perfect viewpoint over Speyside.
Before returning to our home base, we'll visit the Craigellachie Hotel to sample a few unusual whiskys in their whisky bar - floor to ceiling whisky bottles. Definitely worth a photo shoot.
Approx: walking time 5 1/2 hours, excluding breaks
Day 4: A final hike in whisky country over the Braes of Glenlivet before we drop in at Tomintoul to see the world's largest bottle of whisky and to visit possibly the best whisky shop in the whole of Scotland. They'll be a chance to pick up souvenirs here or to take home an extra special bottle of the amber nectar.
Approx walking time: 4 1/2 hours, excluding breaks
We've put together a very special menu for this trip which includes some unusual opportunities to include some of Scotland's most famous produce and to flavour some of our dishes with whisky.
All our produce is locally sourced.
