You will begin this journey visiting beautiful towns, museums, churches and temples on a tour with impressive landscapes between Cusco and Puno.The past continues to be alive on the wonders islands of Lake Titicaca, which is the highest navigable lake in the world.Day 1: Cusco - Puno (B, L)
Transfer to the bus station after breakfast at the hotel, boarding the bus which departs in the morning heading to Puno, which is on the western shore of Lake Titicaca. There are three stops along the way to visit historic monuments. The first stop is at Andahuaylillas, a picturesque town famed for the beautiful 16th century Church of St. Peter the Apostle. It boasts a gilded baroque interior and frescoes so delicate that it is known as the Sistine Chapel of America. Continue to Raqchi to admire the ruins of an Inca temple built to worship Wiracocha, one of the most important Inca gods. Break for lunch at Sicuani and stop briefly at La Raya, which at more than 2 miles above sea level is the highest point on the route. The final cultural stop is at the archaeological site of Pukara, which dates from 200BC to 300AD, where you can admire the collection of pre-Inca sculptures and objects at the Lithic Museum. Continue to Puno where you are met on arrival by a representative and transferred to your selected hotel in the city early evening. You will be able to take advantage for the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy on your own.
Day 2: Lake Titicaca Cruise (B, L)
Transfer to the shore of Lake Titicaca after breakfast to enjoy a motor boat cruise. You will disembark at a number of the islands in the lake, your first stop is at the unique Uros Islands. More than 40 similar floating islets, are made entirely from totora reeds plucked from the lake. You will be welcomed by Aymara-speaking islanders, and learn about the making of the islands, their lifespan and upkeep while exploring these marvels of engineering made using only primitive materials and methods. Board the boat to continue the voyage of discovery at timeless Taquile island. Upon your arrival, you will receive a brief explanation of the island and will attend a cultural activity. You will have lunch and return to Puno. The rest of the day free at leisure.
Day 3: Puno – Juliaca – Lima (B)
Breakfast at the hotel is followed by transfer to Juliaca Airport for flight to Lima. Assistance provided at airport.
