Meet some wildlife at an ostrich farm, an African elephant reserve and Cango Wildlife Ranch – home to some of the world’s most endangered animals.
Day 1:
Leave Cape Town early in the morning for the scenic journey to Oudtshoorn, a semi-desert town in the heart of the Klein Karoo. The drive takes you along Cape Route 62, famous for its beautiful scenery.
Arriving in Oudsthoorn, you'll tour a local ostrich farm to learn more about these flightless birds.
Then set off to meet the African elephants at a nearby game reserve. Under the watchful eye of your guide, get up close to these huge yet lovable creatures – easily the largest animals walking the earth today. Learn about their background and behavior as you feed them and see how calm and peaceful they can be (own expense).
Your evening is spent at leisure back in Oudtshoorn, so either relax at your accommodation or head into town to discover the nightlife or local restaurants on your own. Your guide will be able to recommend the best places to visit.
Day 2:
Head to the Cango Wildlife Ranch – a sanctuary that’s home to some of the world's most endangered animals and contributes to the conservation of over 60 species. Internationally recognized as the Western Cape’s most prestigious zoological park, the ranch is home to big cats, snakes, birds and more. After a tour, you’ll have time to spend at your leisure or have an photo taken with some of the wildlife. There’s even a Nile crocodile cage diving experience for the fearless (own expense).
Now it's time for a 4x4 for a safari drive through a private game reserve. From the safety of an open-top vehicle, keep on the lookout for the Big 5 game animals (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard) in their natural habitat. Leopards are nocturnal hunters and evasive, so you're unlikely to see them during the game drive. The private game reserve is located in a malaria-free area, and is home to an abundance of other wildlife including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and more.
After this safari drive, the tour will take the N2 highway back to Cape Town, where you'll arrive back in the late evening.
