Day 1: Cusco - Huchuy Qosqo – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes (L)
After a pick up from your hotel, you will head to the small Village of Tauca to begin your trek. It starts on level terrain, and the landscape will be that of typical Andean valleys, rich in corn, potatoes, barley, quinoa, and other Andean tubers.

As you ascend towards the Huchuy Qosqo pass at the summit of your hike, the landscape begins to change dramatically to that of classic high Andean Savannah, with thin vegetation, mainly “ichu” or high altitude grass. The views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba peaks are spectacular.
Soon after the pass, you will start your descent toward the Huchuy Qosqo plains, hiking along a path that leads through ravines, where you will be able to see archaeological remains and wild crops. This canyon boasts geological formations surrounded by majestic rocks and boulders that direct the river to Huchuy Qosqo.

Huchuy Qosqo is a noteworthy Inca complex. It boasts very fine stonework in a large Kallanka (rectangular hall), some residential and defensive quarters and interesting two-story buildings in stone and adobe. It's located on a plateau, surrounded by Incan agricultural terracing and commands superb views of the Vilcabamba range. Afterward, you will head down the hill to catch your transport to Ollantaytambo. From there you will continue by train to the town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco (B)
Early in the morning you will go up in the first bus to visit Machu Picchu at your own pace with your guide. After your free time there, descend back to the village of Aguas Calientes, where you will catch the train coming back to Ollantaytambo. There your vehicle will be expecting you to take you to your hotel in Cusco.
