Explore some of the 25,000 islands in the Stockholm Archipelago during a 2-day kayak adventure. Most of the islands are uninhabited and set in one of the wildest areas of Europe, yet they are only an hour away from the center of Stockholm. The kayaks are easy to handle and also suitable for beginners. After a short training session, cruise along at an easy tempo that will suit both beginners and advanced kayakers. Listen to your guides knowledge of the archipelago, its history, flora, and fauna. Discover the finest islands, skerries, and inlets. Find a deserted island to take a swim and stop for a rest.
Discover Runmarö Island, one of the best paddling areas in the whole archipelago, perhaps in the whole world. Glide silently along narrow, shallow passages between the islets where even oystercatchers and seagulls reach the bottom. The Nämdö archipelago is proposed to become a National Park and even a World Heritage Site, and you will see why.
When night falls, sleep on comfortable air mattresses in 3-person tents (2 people will be assigned per tent). Wake up and go for a swim, or try your luck (or skill) by fishing for your dinner.
Day 1:
The tour begins in Stavsnäs before lunch with a trip in a taxi boat to Runmarö Island, where you will be welcomed at the jetty by your guide. Try out the equipment and get comfortable with your kayak. Take a short first journey, then set up camp before cooking dinner in the soft evening light.
Day 2:
Weather permitting, paddle leisurely to Bullerö Island, far out toward the open sea. The island was the inspiration for the famous Swedish artist Bruno Liljefors. Visit the little museum and picturesque village before paddling on to the next remote camping spot. Before dinner, take a walk in the surroundings or just sit on the smooth rocks and soak up the peace and quiet.
