This 2-day elephant program lets you experience a unique up close encounter with these great animals. Day 1: Pick up from your hotel in Chiang Mai before 8am.
After a 90 minute drive we will arrive in the village of Mae Sapok, where you can leave your belongings in your accommodation for the duration of your stay. We stop for a quick tea break and then brief you on the planned itinerary days ahead and then take a short ride to our elephant camp. On our arrival you learn about elephants in general and about the tradition of keeping elephants in Asia.
We then spend some time getting to know the elephants and hearing the stories and characters of each of our big friendly giants. This will give you a better understanding of our beloved project and everything we are trying to do. After meeting each of the elephants we take a break for lunch.
After lunch you lead your elephant to the nearby river and enjoy giving them a long bath. Your elephant keepers and your English speaking tour guides will always be around and supporting you in everything you do. With your elephant you then make your way back to the park.
Whilst teh elephants enjoy some free time you can take the opportunity to visit the village of Mae Sapok. Most residents here are people from the Karen mountain tribe. We introduce you to the lifestyle of the Karen and explain how they adapt to the challenges of the 21st century. This is not a show village for tourists. It is a very real village and will allow you to truly see how this part of Thailand lives.
After a relaxing shower in your room you can enjoy a sumptuous dinner in the dining area of your accommodation. You will then have the opportunity to attend a screening of a video film about elephants.
Day 2: After breakfast we head straight to the elephant camp accompanied by your trainer. From there you take a walk into the surrounding forest, where you pick up the elephant from their night time sleeping areas. You lead the animals back to the elephant camp and will be getting more and more confident due to the experience gained from the previous day. On arrival our trained mahouts will show you how the elephants used to work in the logging industry.
After our goodbyes to the elephants we enjoy lunch with a spectacular view from our Lodge the "White House". After lunch we drive to the starting point of the bamboo raft experience. You will appreciate this relaxed method of transportation along the idyllic and simultaneously spectacular mountain river Mae Wang River.
Upon arrival at the accommodation you have the opportunity to enjoy a shower before heading back to Chiang Mai, where you will arrive around 5.30pm with memorable impressions of a unique and amazing experience.
