On the way back to Cusco, you will also visit some "off the beaten track" Inca ruins.
Day 1: (L,D)
After leaving Cusco at 8:00am by private transport to travel through the highlands of Anta. A dirt road will take us over the Puna highlands to the scenic mountain hamlet of Chonta near the Apurimaq Canyon. There may be stops along the way at a small hidden lagoon or in case you spot any interesting wildlife. You shall briefly visit the school of Chonta before starting our 2 hour trek of moderate difficulty to our vantage point. With a little luck, you may spot some highland birds on the way and sometimes even parrots can be seen. There will be plenty of spectacular scenery and interesting flora to see while approaching the canyon. A short hike downhill will take you to the viewpoint in time for a delicious picnic lunch.
At this marvelous spot, you will stay for 2-3 hours in order to wait and see the condors soar upwards by using the thermal winds. This is an unforgettable bird watching experience and a highlight for every nature enthusiast. In the early afternoon, you will start your hike back to Chonta from where the vehicle will take us down to the lodging near Limatambo. The night will be spent in a bungalow built in Andean style with private facilities. A hearty dinner will be served and after there is a warm fire in the lodge lounge to enjoy.
Day 2: (B,L)
Waking up early to enjoy the amazing views of Mount Humantay’s snowy peak, walk along a fairy trail on the land surrounding the lodge to watch local birds and nature. You may also book an optional yoga or meditation class. A generous breakfast will be served and you shall set off for the return drive to Cusco. On the way, you will visit the Incan archaeological sites of Tarawasi and the mysterious ceremonial site of Killarumiyoq where you will enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing back to Cusco.
